My Seriously Dumbass Moments

I’ve been looking forward to this month’s FFAF – I even made a note in my calendar with an email alarm and I still somehow managed to miss FFAF!

Maybe I’m sleep deprived or something…I sooo need someone to ring my phone on the last Friday of every month and just say – “Yo Teli! Open up your blog for FFAF before you do anything else today!”

Sorry guys :( – if you’re still in the mood, there’s still 6 hours left, feel free to post to your heart’s content. Topic of choice: What was your most dumbass moment?

My Birthday Extended

Yea, so my real birthday kind of bit. But that’s okay because today was pretty cool.

My sisters kidnapped me and they both refused to tell me where we were going. We ended up in a small little shoe store called Cinderella shoes and I thought that it had to be a joke (I’m not that fond of shoes and there were at least a million other things I would have rather been doing than shoe shopping).

Anyhoo, it turns out they wanted to get me handbag like theirs…well, that was their plan until I said off handedly “why in the world do you want to buy another one of those ugly ass bags?”(this was before I knew they were trying to pick one out for me under my nose…).

While they decided against the handbag for me, they did find some handbags for themselves and at the checkout, I asked the clerk – “Is Arabic a hard language to learn?” and that started a quick conversion on language.

He asked what my name was and I told him, then he spelled it out in Arabic for me. He then went on to explain that some phrases in Arabic are said backwards, for instance “Pretty girl would be said as girl pretty” (I didn’t realize this at the time, but I think he was flirting with me — damn I’m really slow). I said I understood because French had a similar way of phrasing their sentences. This is my name in Arabic:
Teli in Arabic

Now, you’d think that would have been the end of it, but nope — dude whipped out some cookies he got straight from his mum and offered us some :D . Gosh I like being friendly, it gets your name written out in Arabic, and free lesson and free cookies (and they were pretty yummy too).

On the way to lunch, they dropped me off in front of Sam Ash (after much pleading) so I could take a quick look around. I asked the first store employee I saw for help and he hooked me up with my first guitar. I told him to hold it while I ran over to the restaurant and informed my sister that she just purchased my birthday gift – yippee, I am now the proud owner of a beginner’s Yamaha Standard acoustic guitar.

Today was definitely a cool day – much cooler than my actual birthday.

Music? I liiiike music…

Thanks to Billyum, I’ve been passed the musical baton. He actually has a cute little post about conducting…and yes, conducting is difficult (even without the baton).

On with the meme…

Total volume of music files on my computer:
According to iTunes, I currently have 2,879 songs, which would take about 9.3 days to listen to, and taking up 13.06 GB of disk space.

Personally, I know there’s more because not all my songs are in that play list…but they’re scattered all over the place. Let’s call it an even 20 GB

The last CD I bought was:
To be quite honest, I really don’t remember, but the last CD in my book is The Best of Mendelssohn…however, I should note my CD books are organized by style and genre.

Song playing right now:
Nature Boy by Nat ‘King’ Cole

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:

This is really hard.

Miss You by Aaliyah
Broken by Seether ft. Amy Lee
Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton
Symphony #40 in G Minor, K. 550 (first movement: molto allegro) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Fields of Innocence by Evanescence

Bonuses my favorite flute & piccolo solos performed at S&E (worry not William, I’m a classical nerd too):
Vocalise by Rachmaninoff
La Flute de Pan – Pan Et Les Bergers by Mouquet
Minuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits (from Orfeo ed Euridice) by Gluck
Serenade by Haydn (this was never a solo of mine, but I did sight read it, and I always smile when I hear it)
Concertino by Chaminade
Just about anything by Telemann

Disclaimer: This list doesn’t even scratch the surface. And while searching for the links to the individual albums, I’ve now found a CD I must have…each of the songs (with the exception of 1) is a flute solo I’ve played one time or another – French Flute Favourites

Damn, this meme took on a life of its own.

Five people to whom I’m passing the baton:
Paul Short - just cuz I want to see what he listens to
Daisyhead – I know she likes music, and so far her taste seems pretty on point
J.A.S.O.N. - just cuz I feel like giving him more stuff to do :)
Tom – you’ve been awfully quiet
BJ – because you just need to relax and take a breather…

There are some other people I’d like to pass the baton to, but I’m hoping that they will get tagged by at least 3 of the 5 people I chose :)

Tomorrow I Turn 21 (Again…)

And you know what sucks? Star Wars revenge of the something that most likely sucks is coming out on this most sacred of days.*

I honestly don’t know how many times I’ve turned 21, I stopped counting after the first time, but I know that denial can be very sweet…

*No, I don’t hate Star Wars – it’s actually pretty cool, but the ones I’ve seen of late…um…lets just say I slept through one and didn’t even realize it.

Damn, That Was Fast

I literally just added a new blog to my BlogExplosion account and not 2 minutes later I get an approval email. Now that’s what I call steppin’ up the service.

And to think, not too long ago they were experiencing some major lag on the blog approval turn around time, and I wasn’t the only one noticing.

Good job BE – way to be :)

And yes, I’ve added a new blog to my little blog family (hmmm…maybe I should start an indie blog network myself) – it’s called Oh The Drama and I launched it because I watch entirely too much t.v. and I really do have this weird obsession with commercials. If I can find any other bloggers with my same weird obsession, I may just invite them to write there too.

The writing style is a little different than the insanity, but hopefully you won’t find it too course or turn-offish. I’m not as nice on that blog cuz there are just some commercials that plain suck and deserve a good thrashing :|

The Blogosphere Shows Its True Colors

When I read about Paul’s situation a few days ago, my heart sank. Although I’ve never met him in person, he’s a straight up guy and very caring. To hear that he may have to sell off his blog network (which I personally know to be his baby) left me absolutely speechless.

After the news launched, I pondered for an entire day what I could possibly say to help him or what I could possibly offer or any insight, but nothing seemed quite right. But as I watched his blog fill up with comments and offers to help, the power of the blogosphere started showing itself before my eyes. Watching this actually inspired me to work harder, do more, and help more.

Now, Paul has a plan and a whole slew of people backing him, urging him to succeed where he once felt he could not – it’s empowering and heart warming to say the least. Watching this actually reminded me about one of the entries on my other blog – who have you helped today?

I wish you lots and lots of success Paul, you certainly deserve it. And remember, obstacles are those dreadful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals – focus only on your success and even when you cannot see the path laid out ahead of you, know that it is there and what you want will be waiting for you.

Feeling Much Better Now

Thank you for the well wishes and prayers!

I’m feeling a lot better – the side effects of the meds still have me a little woozy every now and again, but for the most part, I’m able to function at 80% normal :) .

So, news:
- My sister is having surgery on Monday morning. I’m scared crapless for her because I don’t want anyone to cut her open again. I have to bring her to the hospital and since it’s outpatient treatment, I’ll be waiting patiently for them to finish.

- I had to change my email address with this account. teli AT no longer exists, if you send mail there it will bounce. I have been receiving a steady stream of junk mail with a viral attachment.

I’ve not used this email address for anything other than FFAF sign ups with other blogs and I’ve not used the actual email address anywhere online or in plain view, so I don’t rightly know how I ended up on any spammers list. It all started with some stupid “Gouranga” spam message.

- If you want to know the new address replace ‘teli’ with a ‘t’ and please don’t add me to your address book if you have a virus on your machine that mass mails people.

- I’m still playing the catch up game with client, life, and personal stuff – but again, I haven’t forgotten about this blog. I will hopefully have a surprise for everyone in time for my birthday.

<tangent> I so cannot believe I am going to be another year older. Gosh, how many times can a person turn 21 before God figures out that they don’t want to age anymore? </tangent>

- I didn’t participate in Aprils FFAF, but I will hopefully be participating in May’s

I think that’s it for now.

Feeling craptastic, but thankful to be alive

Since Friday, I’ve not been feeling well. Some of you already know this, and for those that didn’t – now you do. I’ve not come online very often – however, I tried to keep a semi decent schedule for clients on Monday, Tuesday was a little too rough, and well…that leaves today.

My Dr.’s visit was a long one…and I know I will be feeling better soon – but that’s after many pain killers and antibiotics later…just wanted to check in and let everyone know I’m still alive, however, I am out of it and tired.

I will most likely not be working on anything for the rest of the day or most of tomorrow and Friday I will only be working on immediate client items. This blog may be neglected in that timeframe – I apologize now.

If you don’t hear from me in a few days, I swear, I’m still alive and I haven’t forgotten about this blog.
