Well, in case you haven’t already guessed, my electricity has returned and I am back at my home.
Back? I hear you ask, puzzled. Well, I’ve already mentioned that I could barely make it three days without electricity — it turns out, I can go six. I decided to pack up my cat, some various necessities and make my way over to my wonderful sister’s home. She had electricity after the third day, but her phone and internet was not working. So, although I had the luxury of electricity and satellite t.v. I had no way to access the internet.
But now that I am back, I feel it’s only fair to update everyone on what I consider my unexpected and involuntary vacation from life. If you’re curious, I will be creating its very own page with pictures this weekend and I will update a blog post with the link to it.
The quick of it is: I am okay. My family is okay. My Little Tiger is okay. My house has seen some better days, but it, by comparison, is also okay. I am behind on a bunch of stuff, but am excited to get back to work. I bonded with neighbors and discovered neighbors I never knew I had. Despite my lack of an internet connection, I resorted to good old fashioned ink and paper to start my novel for NaNoWriMo.
I have some thank you’s to issue: The unnamed one for keeping everyone updated on my status and delivering hurricane updates to me while I was hold up in my roman tub. BJ, Helena, and Daisyhead for your warm condolences and everyone else who sent me their prayers.
And one very special person who reminded me that there really is some good still left in this world — but he deserves his very own post so that will come this weekend.
Now, before I finish up, I want to leave you all with some wisdom that Wilma has instilled in me:
- Pay extra for the expedited shipping.*
- I’ve already said it, but it’s worth repeating: get camping equipment.
- Online income is good. Passive income is great. Direct deposit is heaven sent.
- The one storm you don’t think you need to prepare for is the storm you need to prepare for.
- Under no circumstances are you to tempt Mother Nature. FEAR HER. Make sure she knows that you fear her too. And don’t try to feign either. Feel it deep down in the marrow of your bones. She’ll leave you alone if she knows you’re good and scared.
- People can surprise you with their kindness, generosity, and compassion. When it comes down to it, we all depend on each other at some time.
* I finally broke down and ordered a digital camera from Amazon.com about a week before Wilma was due to hit. The memory card arrived long before the camera and the camera was due to arrive on Wed. 26 (2 days after the hurricane hit), but as you can imagine…the package was delayed.
The good news is, I received it Monday, so it wasn’t too bad, but all the pictures I’ve taken of Wilma’s toll are a week after the fact – something to bear in mind. When I get the regular film shots developed, I may scan and add them to the blog.
I will expound on each of the points presented in the longer hurricane Wilma page…but for now, something to make you go aaaawwww. You can click on each of the images for a larger view.
